Duration: 15min - 1 hour Parking: multiple parking garages in the surrounding area Attraction: a small Museum split across four exhibits. The first exhibit is very nicely well done with lots of graphics however there is a hodgepodge of information in tiny font packed in well simultaneously there is audio speaking throughout the room making it very challenging to concentrate The second exhibit is a series of filmed actors who answer three different prompts. It is well done however when multiple are playing at the same time it's overwhelming The last two exhibits are paintings and photographs I think most people spend a long time here because they paid a lot of money and feel obligated to make the most out of it. I have visited hundreds of museums around the world and got free admission to this Museum and was in and out in about 15 minutes. Overall: I would not recommend. There are far better museums in Philadelphia or if you're interested in African-American history and particular it is well worth the drive down to DC for a good quality free museum Rating: 2 stars for the quality and price of the museum relative to other museums in the Philadelphia area. +1 star for requiring masks
I am glad that I purchased Groupon tickets for me and my daughter because I wouldn't have wanted to pay full price. I was expecting to see more from the museum. This exhibit only touched the surface of black history. It would have been nice to see some more paintings and artifacts. The downside was the upper level was closed off to the public, so we weren't able to get the full experience of the museum. Sadly, we were in an out in less than an hours time.
There was only two rooms open today (reason for the scoring). I wish parents and teens would take more of an interest, and bring their young children. Only having two rooms open was a little disappointing. I wanted more, to see more. Perhaps this summer, all the rooms will be open.
When I first arrived at the entrance, other guests and I have to wait outside until we are scheduled to go in and scan our ticket(s). The waiting was worth it because the employees gave me and other guests a warm welcome. I got to learn what African Americans did and what they went through during their lifetime. Many famous African Americans fought for freedom, dream careers, and respect. I would recommend you and everyone to go their to visit.
Great place for some education. Please know your history. Please understand the history of others. It is interactive, so its great for kids/family outings. The art exhibit on the top floor was also great. It is a revolving exhibit.
